Smithville (23-4) and seventh-ranked Lutheran South (22-6-1) decide third place at 10 a.m. at Blue Springs High School.
Carthage, which is seeking its first state title, made it three straight shutouts in the playoffs — previously 5-0 against Willard and 2-0 against Rolla.
Said Osborne: “We played very well. I feel like, except for about 15 minutes, we were in control. We played the style we wanted.”
Carthage led 1-0 at the half on Victor Marin’s goal 11 minutes into the match. He was assisted by Ismael Serratos.
Serratos’ 34th goal of the season — he was assisted by Hector Marin — made it 2-0 at the 50-minute mark of the second half.
Shots were Carthage 14, Lutheran South 11. Carthage goalie Jose Alberto, a junior, posted seven saves.
Said Osborne of St. Dominic: “They have good size, good speed and they possess the ball very well.
“It’s hard to gauge if they will be the best team we’ve played this season,” Osborne said. “I saw them for a half. Definitely, they rank up at the top. That’s expected.”
