Miller and Carl Junction’s junior varsity advanced to the girls championship game of the McAuley Warrior Classic with victories on Friday night.
Miller built a 27-8 halftime lead en route to a 52-32 victory over Wheaton, and Carl Junction B defeated McAuley Catholic 56-30. The Cardinals and Bulldogs will decide the tournament title today at 4:30 p.m.
Jessica McAdams tallied 17 points to pace Miller, and Crystal Alvarado scored 11 for Wheaton.
Lindsey Showalter popped in 19 points for Carl Junction B, which led 24-16 at the intermission. Ten players contributed to the Bulldogs’ scoring.
Victoria Foley scored 16 points for the Warriors, and Abby Pekarek chipped in with 12. McAuley opens today’s four-game session by playing Wheaton in the fifth-place game.
In a round-robin boys game, Ethan Frack fired in 23 points to spark Carl Junction B past College Heights 57-39.
Frack hit seven 3-point goals — five of them in the third period when the Bulldogs outscored CHC 28-9 to turn a 20-19 halftime deficit in a 47-29 advantage.
Andrew Reed made four treys for 12 points for Carl Junction, and Cody Vogt had two treys among 10 points.
Jake Hamilton and Josh Woodmansee netted 18 points apiece for the Cougars, including two 3s for Woodmansee.
McAuley Catholic and Springfield Catholic meet in the final boys game tonight at 6. Springfield Catholic is 2-0 in the tournament, and the Warriors are 1-1.
