COLUMBIA, Mo. —
Neosho advanced two of its eight semifinalists Friday night into the finals of the Class 3 MSHSAA Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena.
Kearney leads the team standings with 118.5 points, 2.5 points ahead of Neosho.
Neosho’s Nate Rodriguez at 132 and Christian Lopez at 220 will wrestle for championships tonight. Rodriguez (54-1), a senior, will face Blake Clevenger (42-9), a junior from Kearney, while Lopez will face Jordan Moffett of McDonald County.
Moffett, a senior, is 45-1. His only loss was to Lopez (50-5), a senior, in the finals of the Class 3 district tournament at Willard.
The Wildcats’ other semifinalists — Kyler Rea at 106, River Buttram at 120, Kyle Hostetter at 145, Sam Williams at 152 and Aaron Clardy at 285 — join Dakota McGarrah at 126 in the consolation finals.
Williams will face Nick Koon (43-5), a senior from Carl Junction, who pinned Kyle Campbell of Republic in the third round of wrestlebacks.
Trevor Feagans (49-1) of Carthage, a senior, pinned Cole Hamai of Washington in the third period of his semifinal match at 138. He will face Kevin Kinney (46-3), a senior from Kearney, for the championship.
All three of Webb City’s state qualifiers advanced to the third round of wrestlebacks, and one — Tony Carranco at 285 — advanced to the consolation finals with a 1-0 victory against Matt Pecka of Washington.
Alex Lane of Webb City was decisioned by Brett Marr of Warrensburg 5-0, and Brayden Goff of Webb City was pinned by Dalton Kuenzel of Union in the third round of consolation.
Carthage’s Dakota Jones at 106 and Seth Logan at 132 advanced to the consolation finals, where winners wrestle for third place and losers wrestle for fifth place.
