Jessica Henson won two events and qualified for state in two more as she helped the Galena girls track and field team take third place in the Kansas Class 3A regional on Friday at Wellsville.
Fredonia’s girls won the meet with 96 points. Burlington was second with 86, and Galena had 53.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for next weekend’s state track meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
Henson won the 100 meters in 13 seconds and the 200 in 27.6. She also was third in the long jump at 15 feet. Galena’s 4x100 relay team of Raven Federico, Henson, Rhiann Shepherd and Allie Steele finished second.
Riverton’s MacKenzie Dunbar displayed her talents in sprints and middle distance events, winning the 1,600 meters (5:33.93), 800 meters (2:32.91) and 400 meters (1:03.7), while taking third in the 200 meters (28.11).
St. Mary’s-Colgan’s girls qualified in three relays. Rachel Farmer, Moira Myers, Nichole Kolarik and Cori Koehn took second in the 4x800. Halee Pace, Hayden Dawson, Kolarik and Myers was fourth in the 4x100. Pace, Koehn, Kolarik and Myers was second in the 4x400. Myers also qualified in the 200 meters, placing second with a time of 2:34.17.
Colgan’s boys finished second in the team standings with 64 points, eight behind Burlington.
Panthers distance runner Jonathan Adamson won the 3,200 meters (10:24.52) and the 1,600 meters (4:39). Colgan’s Conner Dayton qualified in three events, placing second in the 100 meters (11.36), second in the long jump (21-7.25) and second in the 4x100, along with Alexander Gilmore, Tucker Hoffman and Austin Commons.
Riverton’s relay team of Blake Burlingame, Jacob Qualls, Trystan Allen and Benjamin Root won the 4x800 in 8:40.39.
Southeast’s Ryan Rakestraw won the high jump (6-0) and triple jump (41-0), while placing fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.29).
Pittsburg’s girls finished second in the team standings with 85 points at the Class 4A regional on Friday at Iola. Paola won with 147.
The Dragons’ Andie Casper won the long jump with a distance of 17-3.25.
On the boys’ side, Baxter Springs’ Kacey Elias won the 200 meters (22.42) and the 400 meters (49.47).
Girard’s Drew Davied won the high jump with a leap of 6-6. Pittsburg’s Gershom Avalos won the shot put (51-0), and Pittsburg’s Dakota Taylor took first in the discus (141-3).
Coffeyville’s boys won the team competition.
