District track meets slated for today

— Postseason track competitions begins today for the largest high schools in southwest Missouri as a Class 4 district meet will be held at Branson and a Class 3 meet is at Carl Junction.

The time schedule is the same at both sites: 11 a.m. field events, 11:30 running preliminaries and 1:30 p.m. running finals.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for next weekend’s sectional competition, the final step before the state meet in Jefferson City.

Joplin, Webb City, Carthage and Neosho are entered in the Branson district.

Webb City hurdler Logan Williams is the top seed in both the 110-meter highs and 300 intermediates, and teammate Kiante Hardin has the fastest time in the 400.

The Cardinals also are the favorite in the 4x400 relay.

Joplin’s girls have two No. 3 seeds — Emma Hueller in the shot put and Marley Robeson in the 300 hurdles.

The Class 3 meet at Carl Junction includes three athletes with two No. 1 seeds — East Newton’s Emily Sorrell (1600, 3200), Mount Vernon’s Shane Williams (high jump, long jump) and Cassville’s Cody Frana (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles).
