A pair of CNC League volleyball teams will be competing for state championships this weekend at Salina.
The Frontenac Raiders (35-4) enter the Class 4A state tournament at the Salina Bicentennial Center as the No. 3 seed. Frontenac will open pool play at 9:30 a.m. Friday against No. 6 seed Topeka Hayden (18-13). The Raiders will then face No. 7 Buhler (22-17) at 11:30 a.m. and No. 2 McPherson (38-4) at 1:30 p.m.
The Southeast Lancers (34-5) enter the 3A state tournament as the No. 3 seed. Southeast will begin pool play at 4:30 p.m. Friday against No. 6 Silver Lake (29-8). The Lancers will then face No. 7 Wellsville (25-15) at 6:30 p.m. and No. 2 Hillsboro (37-3) at 8:30 p.m.
If the Raiders or Lancers advance out of pool play, they would compete in respective semifinal games on Saturday.
Coached by Cassie Buche, Frontenac has won 22 consecutive matches and has lost only three sets over that span.
Junior Ryleigh McCartney leads the Raiders in kills and blocks with 336 and 102, respectively.
Coach Maya White has the Lancers back in the state tournament for the third consecutive year. Junior Amy Martin and sophomore Olivia Powell lead Southeast in kills with 239 and 214.
The Lancers are in search of a victory after going winless in pool play at each of the past two state tournaments. Southeast hasn’t won a set in either of the past two trips to state.
