Beaver expects to return for College Heights

OZARK, Mo. — Savannah Beaver’s senior season of cross country ended before it began.

Beaver, who has been nursing a broken ankle this fall, will miss the rest of the season in hopes of returning to competition next spring, said College Heights Christian cross country coach Tim Casey.

Beaver placed second in the Class 1 MSHSAA State Cross Country Championships last fall with a time of 20 minutes, 29.55 seconds at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City.

“She’s off crutches. She can walk and put a little pressure on it now,” Casey said. “She was doing some cross-training, riding a bike and swimming.”

The injury occured during a conditioning drill in preseason practice, Casey said. “We were running hills and she had run all of them, then on the last one she stepped in a hole and broke her ankle.”

Beaver excelled on the track last spring as well. She won the 800 meters at the Class 2 Track and Field Championships with a time of 2:18.64 and placed second in the 1600 meters in 5:17.23.

“I think she has a good chance of getting out and running track,” Casey said. “We’re just hoping she can get in her senior year of track season.”
