Nevada's Brandt selects North Central Missouri

Nevada Tigers basketball coach John McNeley said he always knew Jamin Brandt had a lot of talent.

In the last year or so, Brandt’s talent began to shine.

“Jamin is a kid who has really come a long ways as a basketball player but also in terms of becoming a better person,” McNeley said. “He’s always had good athletic ability but didn’t really show all he could do as a basketball player until late in his junior year.”

Brandt, an all-district performer for Nevada, signed his letter of intent on Tuesday to continue his basketball career at NJCAA Division II North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Mo.

“I like the coach (Steve Richman) and have good chemistry with the other signees,” Brandt said. “It’s a small campus, and I felt comfortable.”

Brandt, who is about 6-foot-3, played mostly on the inside but will be asked to be a No. 3 for the Pirates.

“He’s never really played facing the basket, but he definitely has the ability to do so,” McNeley said.

McNeley said Brandt and teammate Silas Smith, who recently signed to play at Southwest Baptist University, worked hard to have strong senior seasons.

“Jamin really matured,” McNeley said. “There was a desire to become the type of player he could be. He ran a lot in the offseason with Silas and played a lot. You could tell that a lot coming into the season. I think Jamin got hungry when he realized there were things on the basketball court he could do that others couldn’t. It was a much more dedicated Jamin than we had seen before.”

Brandt said he is ready to continue working so he can make the adjustment to the perimeter.

“It’s going to be tough to change,” he said. “But it’s going to make me a better basketball player.”
