Prep roundup: College Heights tops Adrian in district tourney

ARCHIE, Mo. — College Heights’ Drew Kilgore, backed by a four-run fifth inning, stopped fourth-seeded Adrian 4-0 on Friday night in the first round of the Class 2 District 14 Tournament.

Sixth-seeded Liberal hurdled third-seeded Jasper 12-7 in the first contest in the six-team event.

Monday’s schedule is College Heights vs. Rich Hill (1) at 4:30 p.m. and Liberal vs. Archie (2) at 6:30.

Kilgore, a junior right-hander, allowed three singles, struck out 14 and didn’t  walk a batter as the Cougars improved to 6-11.

Jordan Fuller singled to start the decisive CHC fifth. Tyler Melton’s sacrifice bunt, plus an error, placed runners at second and third.

Jake Painter singled home one run, Logan Hobbs doubled in two and Kilgore singled in Hobbs.

Hobbs and Kilgore each had two hits in the game.

McAuley Catholic, 10-0


The Warriors marked “Senior Night” at the expense of the first-year Monett Cubs.

McAuley, which led 6-0 at the half, received three goals apiece from Mary Street and Ally Adrian. Scoring one each were Nicolle Ross, Hailey Riesenmy, Lucy Borgmeyer and Ashton Gilliam.

Seniors recognized were Adrian, Borgmeyer, Gilliam (who had three assists) and Allie Landreth.

Kate Klunk and Landreth shared goalie duty for the Cougars.

“Landreth, who has a broken big toe from our previous match, had three saves,” Warrior coach Tom Gilliam said.

McAuley (6-6) faces Monett  at 5 p.m. on Monday in Class 1 district competition at the Springfield Cooper Complex.
