Four from area finish in top 10 at state golf

— Connor Schlegel of McAuley Catholic, Phillip Roller of Purdy, Bradley Jumper of Seneca and Landon Maberry of Lamar registered top-10 finishes Tuesday as the four MSHSAA boys golf state tournaments concluded.

Lamar placed second in the Class 2 team standings, and Mount Vernon tied for sixth.

In Class 4, Joplin’s Griffen Locke and Nic Yuhas finished two shots apart and placed among the top-30.

Class 1

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Schlegel, a senior who has signed to play with Rogers State, shot a final-round 82 at Silo Ridge Golf Course for a 159 total, good for fifth place overall.

Trevor Cronin of Barat Academy, the first-day leader, held on to claim medalist honors at 155. Barat won team honors with 670, 22 shots ahead of Louisiana.

Roller had a final-round 80 and tied for sixth place with 161.

Also in the tournament were College Heights’ Cole McAlester (184) and McAuley’s Chase Damer (187) and Zack Crossland (195).

Class 2

NIXA, Mo. — Lamar, five shots off the pace after 18 holes, maintained its position during the final round and finished with a 651 total at Fremont Hills Country Club. First-day leader St. Peters Lutheran won the title with 635, and Kansas City Barstow was third with 662.

Big 8 Conference competitors Jumper and Maberry were part of a three-way tie for sixth place at 156. Jumper made a big jump in the standings with a second-round 74 — eight shot better than Monday’s round — and Maberry posted his second 78.

Lamar’s Logan McAruthur tied for 14th with 159, and Caleb Fischer was 20th with 161. Derek Nagel and Kealon Cox shot 177 and 178, respectively.

Tripper Jensen led Mount Vernon with 158, good for a share of 11th place. The Mountaineers’ Korey Pryer had 165, Devin Brown 177, Ian Reeves 205 and Canyon Moenkhoff 206.

Class 4

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Joplin’s Locke, eagling his final hole of the day, shot 79 and tied for 24th place with 155 at Rivercut Golf Course. Yuhas, a junior, tied for 28th with 81-157.

Timberland nipped Rockhurst 619-621 for team honors. Co-medalists Patrick Byrne of Rockhurst and Matthew Mueller of Vianney shot 146.

Class 3

SEDALIA, Mo. — Aurora’s Grant Seifried tied for 21st with 157 at the Sedalia Country Club, and teammates Josh Fronabarger and Jordan Fronabarger shot 165 and 169, respectively.

Levi Palmer of Nevada shot 172.

First-place winners were Jack Litzelfelner of Cape Girardeau Notre Dame with 144 and the MICDS team with 617. Ozark Conference champion West Plains was fourth with 644.
