Colgan's Misasi takes second in Kansas Class 3A

— St. Mary’s-Colgan’s David Misasi missed out on second place at regionals after losing a playoff hole against Caney Valley’s Troy Watson.

A week later at state competition, Misasi and Watson battled it out for second place again.

This time, Misasi dropped a putt to edge Watson in the playoff hole to finish second at the Kansas Class 3A state golf tournament at Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca.

“That was a nice thing for David,” Colgan coach Chuck Smith said. “He had a big putt on No. 18 to make it to the playoff hole, and he had a big putt to win the playoff.”

Misasi finished 18 holes with a 76 after recording nine-hole scores of 39 and 37.

“David had a great round,” Smith said. “I was really glad for him. His first couple tournaments of the year, he shot 99 and 100. He was disappointed. He worked really hard.”

Phillipsburg’s Ryan Hoover won the tournament with a 74. Sabetha won the team title with a 336.

Colgan took ninth with a 366. Bailey Beykirch tied for 45th with a 90. Freddie Elmer, Jonah Dellasega, Brock Jameson and Brandon Emerson posted scores of 95, 105, 107 and 110.

Iola’s Kaden Macha captured first place in the 4A state tournament at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney with a 72. Independence’s Keenan Nutt (77) took 20th in a competitive field. The 4A tournament saw 31 golfers shoot in the 70s.

Columbus’ Dawson Soper was 74th with an 87.

Wichita Collegiate won as a team with a 299. Independence was sixth with a 325, Labette County was 10th with a 334, and Iola was 12th with a 335.
