Webb City, Lamar going back to St. Louis; Monett falls

The Webb City Cardinals and Lamar Tigers will be spending Thanksgiving weekend in St. Louis again.

Webb City defeated St. Mary’s 47-7 on Saturday to advance to its third consecutive state championship next week at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. The Cardinals will face Helias Catholic at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Class 4 state championship.

Lamar beat Caruthersville 69-12 at home on Saturday to advance to its second straight state championship next week in St. Louis. The Tigers will play Blair Oaks at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in the Class 2 state championship.

Both the Cardinals and Tigers will be looking to defend their state titles.

Meanwhile, Monett’s season fell just short of the Class 3 state championship and a trip to the dome.

John Burroughs beat Monett 28-6 in a game where the Cubs trailed only 7-0 entering the fourth quarter.
