PREP ROUNDUP: McAuley rallies to beat Exeter

EXETER, Mo. — McAuley Catholic rallied from a 16-2 deficit to beat Exeter 69-61 in a prep Ozark 7 Conference boys basketball game on Monday night.

“Our kids off the bench did a wonderful job,” Warrior coach Randy Robertson said. “They helped us rally within 21-16 by the end of the first quarter. They got us going.”

McAuley, trailing 38-36 at the half, outscored the Tigers 19-11 in the third period.

“We knew Exeter was capable after watching them in the Pierce City Tournament,” Robertson said.

Shaw Robertson, despite two early fouls, scored 23 points for McAuley (2-5, 1-1). Cole Lowry added 16.

“Cole came to play,” Coach Robertson said.

Exeter received 15 points for Terry Cook, 14 from Colten Stringer and 13 from Kong Lee.

McAuley, in its home debut, entertains Jasper tonight with the junior varsity game starting at 6.

Exeter girls top McAuley

EXETER, Mo. — Exeter’s defense held McAuley to no more than six points in any quarter and the Tigers came away with a 29-19 win.

Exeter never hit double digits in any quarter, but held the Warriors to three second-quarter points and led 15-9 at the half. The Tigers then outscored McAuley 7-5 in each of the last two quarters to pull away.

Exeter was led by Rayanna Fare’s 11 points while Logan Senters added 10.

McAuley got eight points from Victoria Foley.

Galena girls 49, College Heights 19

Abby Shelton sparked the visiting Bulldogs in the nonconference contest.

Shelton scored 27 points with 13 in the third quarter. The Bulldogs expanded a 22-9 halftime advantage.

College Heights (1-4) received 14 points and three treys from Kirsty Green.
