Area wrestlers competing in tournaments

Several area wrestling teams will be reunited at the Branson Tournament, which begins at 9:30 a.m. today.

Webb City, Carl Junction, Neosho, Monett, McDonald County and Seneca are among the teams scheduled to complete.

Neosho is ranked No. 2 in Class 3 behind Kearney by MissouriWrestling.com. Seneca, 7-1 in duals this season, is ranked No. 3 in Class 1 behind Brookfield and Whitfield. Seneca’s only dual loss was to Neosho.

“It’s good competition, Class 2 and Class 3, which should make for a tough tournament,” said Seneca head coach Jeff Sill. “It’s a great chance for us to see where we’re at after the Christmas break.”

Seneca temporarily lost Jesse Rhoades at 132, Rodney Kohler at 138 and Jake Truelove at 170 because of injuries last month in the Harrisonville Holiday Tournament.

“We pretty much have everybody back in the lineup,” Sill said. “All of our injuries have healed. Now we’re trying to get over the flu bug.”

Neosho’s Kyler Rea at 106 pounds and Nate Rodriguez at 132 are ranked No. 1 in Class 3 in their weight classes. Will Roark of Seneca at 120 is ranked No. 1 in his weight class in Class 1.

Joplin will see Class 4 opposition from the eastern half of the state, including the St. Louis area, by competing in the St. Charles West Invitational, which concludes today.

Skye Paulk at 126 and Phillip Reitz at 285 of Joplin won their third-round matches Friday night. Paulk scored a 16-3 major decision against Bradley Hollrah of St. Charles West, while Reitz pinned Johnny Pulliam of Troy in the third period.

In Kansas, Columbus and Pittsburg are competing in the two-day Bobcat Classic at Basehor-Lindwood, which concludes today.
