Trailing 23-20 at halftime, Carl Junction outscored East Newton 33-20 in the second half and beat the Patriots 53-43 Monday night in the Patriots’ gymnasium.
Brenlee McPherson tallied 11 points to lead a balanced attack for the Bulldogs (14-9, 6-0 Big 8 Conference), and Maria Chism chipped in with 10.
Kourtney Brewster captured game honors with 17 points for East Newton (16-9, 3-3).
Conference games later this week pit Monett at East Newton on Thursday night and Mount Vernon at Carl Junction on Friday night.
Glendale girls 50, Joplin 33
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Falcons erased a two-point deficit after one quarter with a 22-4 advantage in the second to hurdle the Eagles in the Ozark Conference contest.
Jen Pittman, a 5-9 junior, scored 12 of her 16 points in the second quarter to spark the Falcons. Mariah Starks and Teaira Clancy combined for 21 additional Glendale points.
Said Joplin assistant Danielle Falor: “We were without Bailey Taylor (sophomore starter) because she rolled an ankle early in the third quarter of our last game. Two girls with three fouls in the first quarter also didn’t help.”
Kelsey Johnson, a 5-5 junior, scored 17 points for the Eagles.
Joplin entertains West Plains in another Ozark Conference game at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
McAuley girls 48, College Heights 37
Abby Pekarek and Kambry Wagner combined for 28 points to lead the visiting Warriors past College Heights Christian School.
Pekarek netted 16 points and Wagner 12 for McAuley Catholic, which led 19-11 at halftime.
Bri Shores scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for College Heights (6-15). Kirsty Green chipped in with 11 points, and McKenzie Paden and Nevada Moenning had eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
The Cougars play tonight at Jasper in a Spring River Valley Conference contest.
