ROGERS, Ark. —
ROGERS, Ark. — The Webb City Cardinals beat Mount Vernon 58-47 on Friday night at the Arvest Bank Hoopfest in Rogers, Ark., to advance to tonight’s championship game against Rogers Heritage.
Webb City, which won the Class 4 state football championship, improved to 2-0. Several football players fill the Cardinal roster. The Cardinals opened their season Thursday with a 46-40 win against Fort Smith Southside.
“We improved,” Webb City assistant Jeremy Butler said. “We showed much better composure today. The kids are working hard. We’re getting into basketball shape.”
Kohl Slaughter led Webb City with 19 points. Nate Brown and Phoenix Johnson added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Chandler Myers led Mount Vernon with 16 points.
Rogers Heritage advanced to today’s championship game by edging Waynesville 55-54 in overtime with a 17-foot buzzer-beater by Xavier Thomas.
Golden City 36,Thomas Jefferson 34
The visiting Eagles, hiking their record to 3-2, survived a late rally by the Cavaliers in the nonconference contest.
Cavalier coach Chris Myers said Golden City built a six-point lead with less than two minutes left in the game before Thomas Jefferson scored twice to pull within the two points.
Thomas Jefferson missed an attempt from the field and an ensuing follow for the tie in the closing seconds.
Dakota Triplett, a 6-2 senior, tallied 15 for the Eagles.
Thomas Jefferson (1-3) was led in scoring by Justin Brown (12) and John Burnett (10). Brown added 14 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Southwest 68, McAuley 49
WASHBURN, Mo. — Southwest outscored McAuley Catholic 28-17 in the third quarter.
James Pettit sank six 3-pointers and led Southwest with 27 points. Teammate Jordan Eppling added 12 points.
Cole Lowry led McAuley Catholic with 13 points.
Marionville 39,College Heights 24
Marionville outscored College Heights Christian 14-2 in the fourth quarter and defeated the Cougars in a nonconference game at College Heights.
Marty Minnis led Marionville with 12 points and Derek Malcolm scored 11 points. Jake Hamilton led College Heights with 10 points and Ryan Beaver had nine rebounds.
Carl Junction 76, Parsons 30
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Carl Junction senior Travis Vogt eclipsed 1,000-point mark for his career and the Bulldogs beat Parsons.
Vogt scored 13 of his 17 points in the first quarter as Carl Junction cruised to a 27-6 lead. Vogt also registered 10 assists.
Carl Junction forced Parsons into 34 turnovers.
Dustin Satterlee led the Bulldogs with 23 points. Matt Magee contributed 13. Satterlee and Magee combined for 25 of Carl Junction’s 28 points in the third quarter.
Isiah Taylor led Parsons with 18 points.
Carl Junction (4-1) will be at home against the St. Mary’s-Colgan Panthers on Friday.
