Duquesne sets public meeting to discuss plans for zoning

DUQUESNE, Mo. — A public forum tonight in Duquesne will focus on concerns and issues involved with zoning.
It is the first chance residents will have to voice their opinions in a public forum with members of the Comprehensive Plan Committee.
“We are initiating planning in Duquesne,” said Denny White, mayor. “It has never really been in existence here. We have had a building code, but never zoning and planning. ... We are in this final stage of getting the planning and zoning established, and this open forum is so the people know what’s happening and to let us know what they think of it.”
White said planning and zoning for Duquesne has been a topic of discussion for many years.
“This is something that the people are aware of,” he said. “Even before I was mayor, the previous administration had been working on this for some time. We are just giving everyone this last opportunity to speak up about anything they might want or don’t want.”
Zoning issues will be the only topic of discussion at the meeting.
“If there is no objection from the public forum, then we will go ahead and initiate the planning and zoning,” White said. “We just want to give everyone the chance to state what they think about it, to say if they are for or against.”

The public forum begins at 7 p.m. today at Duquesne City Hall, 1051 S. Duquesne Road.
