Rep. Blunt unveils energy plan

WEBB CITY, Mo. — U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., on Friday stopped at a Snak-Atak on North Range Line to promote what he is calling his Find More, Use Less Energy Plan.
“We can see the ripple effect through the economy of these high gas prices,” Blunt said.
He said his plan is a combination of using domestic resources, conservation and efficiency, and new and expanding technologies.
Some points of the plan:
Open ocean resources to offshore drilling.
Open the Arctic Coastal Plain to drilling. The coastal plain is the desert part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, he said, and is not as environmentally sensitive as some other areas.
Provide tax incentives for businesses and families in purchasing more fuel-efficient vehicles.
Provide a monetary prize to develop an economically feasible 100-mile-per-gallon vehicle.
Provide tax incentives for business people and homeowners to improve energy efficiency.
Extend for 10 years the tax credit for alternative energy production, including wind and solar development.
Spur development of alternative fuels through government contracting.
Eliminate barriers to expanding production of nuclear power plants.
Blunt was asked about former Vice President Al Gore’s proposal on Thursday to switch all of the nation’s electricity production to wind, solar and other renewable sources within 10 years.
