CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — After receiving bids from 14 companies for various renovation and upgrade projects around the school district, the Carl Junction Board of Education this week awarded seven separate contracts to two contractors.

The board approved the following bids:

$152,891 from Construction Services Group, Neosho, to repave the bus barn lot.

$62,700 from Construction Services Group for the addition of a covered bus bay that will house 10 buses.

$67,404 from Satterlee Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Joplin, for heating and air conditioning units at the intermediate building gymnasium.

$158,702 from Satterlee for heating and air conditioning units at the south kindergarten and first-grade building.

$35,823 from Construction Services Group for energy-efficient lighting in the halls of the intermediate building, and in 11 classrooms at the second- and third-grade building.

$57,850 from Construction Services Group to remodel two sets of restrooms in the second- and third-grade building.

$54,800 from Construction Services Group to repair three sections of the intermediate building roof.

The total amount of the approved bids is about $590,000, well under the $845,000 that the district had budgeted for those projects, said Jim Cummins, assistant superintendent of operations and finance.

“Overall, we couldn’t be happier as far as the bids,” he said. “That’s going to allow us to set some capital project money aside. ... It will allow us to probably do some more upgrading and repairing around campus that we need to address.”

Bond issue

The seven contracts approved this week by the Carl Junction Board of Education will be paid for by a $1 million bond issue that voters approved in November 2009.
