Three more pick up nominating petitions for Joplin council seats

Three more Joplin residents are making plans to run for Joplin City Council.

The three have picked up nominating petitions to seek a general council post, according to City Clerk Barbara Hogelin. That brings to five the number of candidates who may be on the ballot for the three general council seats to be filled.

Jack Golden, 70, 3301 Delaware Ave., a former longtime city employee, is among the potential candidates, along with Trisha Raney, 31, 930 Monroe Ave., and Bob Gulden, 60, 110 N. Wall Ave. Erik Wright and Mike Woolston, a council incumbent and mayor pro-tem, also are circulating petitions to run for general council posts.

Before his retirement, Golden served as city Community Development director, parks and recreation director, and executive director of the Joplin Housing Authority.

The April election will decide five positions on the nine-member panel. Voters also will fill Zone 1 and Zone 4 council posts. So far, nominating petitions have been picked up by Mayor Gary Shaw, the Zone 1 incumbent, and Michael Seibert, who is filling an unexpired term in Zone 4.

Two others who hold general seats, Phil Stinnett and Jim West, have not said whether they will run again. West has scheduled an announcement next week.

City rules require that petitions signed by 150 registered voters be submitted as part of the candidate-qualification procedure.



Petitions

Nominating petitions may be obtained from Hogelin’s office at City Hall, 602 S. Main St. Petitions must be filed with the city clerk by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19.
