Public hearings on five voluntary annexations related to the west expansion of the city and the development of Wildwood Acres will be taken up by the Joplin City Council at its regular meeting tonight.
The annexations are sought in keeping with a sewer agreement between the property owners and the city as part of the effort to provide sewer service to the area and to the Wildwood development, which will offer residential and retail development on a large portion of the 2,000-acre ranch tract.
The particular property involved is the Wildwood Ranch Cottage subdivision, and the others are properties contiguous with that tract. That land encompasses 78 building lots ranging in size from 5,000 to 9,000 square feet. Developer Jimmer Pinjuv has made the request.
Another section subject to proposed annexation is on Central City Road, north of 32nd Street, which also is called Newton Road. A third section is on John Duffy Drive, south of 32nd Street to the Newton County line.
Two other sections are on 32nd Street, west of the intersection of Central City Road.
A public hearing also is scheduled on a request to rezone property at 6902 E. 32nd St., requested by owner James Meador.
The property is a 17-acre tract east of Jaguar Road near Highway 249. Meador wants to change the zoning from residential to commercial for development. The Zoning and Planning Commission recommended approval of the request after no opposition was voiced.
In other business, the council will be asked to approve a licensing agreement with Broadcast Music Inc. for music played at any city-owned site.
The council also will decide whether a remnant of property at the southwest corner of 32nd Street and Moffet Avenue, acquired during the widening of 32nd Street, can be sold to the owner of the neighboring property, Gene Denham.
