Charlie Brown, 'Peanuts' gang comes to life in musical

JOPLIN, Mo. — One person's blockhead is another person's good man.

Stained Glass Theatre will present a dinner theater production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" next week at Christ's Church of Joplin.

The musical depicts the characters and familiar scenes of Charles Schulz's "Peanuts." As Charlie wonders what makes a good man a good man, other characters from the strip, such as Lucy, Linus and Snoopy, reenact familiar scenes.

"It's like the comic strip come to life," said director Kelly Weaver. "The 'Peanuts' characters are so lovable, and people are so familiar with them."

The play's actors have taken to those characters, Weaver said. Even though they don't look like the large-headed caricatures from the strip, they have embraced the personality of each character.

"Even though these are children, their thoughts are wise and adult-like," Weaver said. "The actors have really embraced that mixture of childlike qualities without talking like babies. It's an interesting challenge for them."

The cast includes Geoff Hall, Rachel Grewe, Josiah Dalton, David Sigars, Charity Musick and Caleb Freeman. Jill Spencer is the musical director.
