MIAMI, Okla. —
A lineup of rock greats from yesterday and today will be featured Saturday at Buffalo Run Casino. Rock the Run will feature headliner The Cult, with supporting acts Hinder, Hellyeah, Buckcherry and Lit.
The show will be hosted by Eddie Trunk, star of radio shows “Eddie Trunk Rocks,” “Trunk Nation” and “That Metal Show.” He has appeared on VH-1 and MTV, and is the former vice-president of Megaforce Records, the company behind Metallica and Anthrax.
Touring in support of its newest album, “Choice of Weapon,” The Cult has performed since its 1984 debut in Britain. Originally hailed as a band mixing punk and gothic rock, the band found mainstream success with “She Sells Sanctuary,” “Fire Woman” and “Sweet Soul Sister.”
The band has recorded nine studio albums with assorted lineups. The band is currently at work on a prequel to its 2012 album called “Weapon of Choice,” a digital-only release that features the songs of “Choice of Weapon” early in the writing and recording process.
“These songs were torned over and over, forged in long rehearsals and writing sessions, and emanated from challenges both personal and professional,” said lead singer Ian Astbury on the band’s website. “It’s a different album to the one we released and reveals the foundations of ‘Choice of Weapon.’”
Formed in 2006 with members of other bands, Hellyeah is touring in support of its third album, “Band of Brothers.” The band includes Mudvayne singer Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell and Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla.
Natives of Oklahoma City, Hinder is set to release its latest album, “Welcome to the Freakshow” on Dec. 4. The band broke big with its three-time platinum-selling album “Extreme Behavior,” which contained the songs “Lips of an Angel” and “Get Stoned.”
The band has released two other albums since its 2005 debut.
Debuting in 1999 with “Lit Up” off its self-titled debut, Buckcherry appeared destined for big heights. It took a breakup and legal challenges to top the success of its first album, however. In 2005, the band released “15,” a two-time platinum selling album on the strength of the singles “Everything” and “Crazy Bitch.”
The band has released five albums; a sixth is due in 2013. The song “Wherever I Go” appeared on the “Avengers” soundtrack.
The band’s second album is the one that put Lit on the charts. 1999’s “A Place in the Sun” included “My Own Worst Enemy,” “Miserable” and “Zip-Lock.”
