Surprises await at chocolate event

JOPLIN, Mo. — Teresa Severs knows that every one of the 40 vendors at an upcoming fundraiser for Hospice Compassus will have plenty of chocolate.

Outside of that, the volunteer coordinator doesn’t know what to expect, she said.

“I’ve been told one of the vendors is bringing some jalapeno truffles,” Severs said. “Outside of that, I have no idea. And I don’t think a lot of our vendors even know until the event gets close.”

Chocolate Extravaganza is like a business expo with a chocolate twist, Severs said. Based on an idea found in Hershey, Pa. (namesake of the well-known chocolate), each of the vendors will bring plenty about their business and a chocolate creation. Past events have featured everything from bite-sized brownies to a chocolate fountain.

The event also includes a silent auction and live entertainment, including singer Duke Mason and illusionist Kyle Prisock.

Proceeds from the event benefit Hospice Compassus’ Dream Team, a group that helps make final wishes from terminal patients come true.
