JOPLIN, Mo. —
A concert for tornado volunteers will feature three Branson performers who want to join a church in a show of thanks.
Abundant Life Campus will host its Thanks for Giving Concert at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, located at 6863 E. Newman Road. The concert will feature "America's Got Talent" finalists Voices of Glory, recording artist Ava Kasich and singer-songwriter Larry Moore.
Volunteer groups of all sorts, from Americorps and Rebuild Joplin to individuals without any affiliation, have been invited, said Judy Bjorkland, a co-organizer of the concert.
Bjorkland said she was showing a friend and Branson promoter the church's efforts at housing volunteers. The meeting inspired the promoter to assemble the concert's performers, Bjorkland said.
Attendance for the concert is free. A love offering taken during the concert will benefit the church's program to host volunteers and provide them with shelter and food.
"Our piece of the relief puzzle is to provide volunteers with a comfortable place to stay, a bed, showers, laundry and three meals a day," Bjorkland said. "We have had more than 12,000 in the 18 months after the tornado."
