Love, labor liven up JHS musical 'Pajama Game'

JOPLIN, Mo. — The spring musical put on by the Joplin High School Theatre Department deals with a labor of love among a labor dispute.

"The Pajama Game" is the story of Sid Sorokin, the new superintendent of a pajama factory, and Babe Williams, the head of the grievance committee. The relationship blossoms and withers around the threat of a strike over a 7 1/2-cent raise. Sid and Babe aren't the only ones who deal with romantic issues, either.

Based on the novel "7 1/2 Cents" by Richard Bissell, the Tony-winning musical opened on Broadway in 1954 and was revived in 1973 and 2006.

The play is directed by Ashley Trotnic. Alex Chesney plays Sid, and Adele Kanan plays Babe.

Other cast members include Zane Craigmile, Tanner Munson, Tessa Foti, Amalea Cox, Erica Zeyn, Alex Harbach, Emma Claybrook, Maggie Baker, Austin Henady, Collin Shipley, Kyler Sehner, Jonah Ellman, Andrew Chesney, Ethan Settle, Jonah Ellman, Andrew Chesney, Tracy Fischer, Zoe Musick, Tonya Richardson, Cassandra Williams, Michaela West, Emily Barnett, Erin Breidenstein, Jenessa Pasimiio-Field, Montana Jordan, Lindsey Meyers, Bonnie Johnson, Emma Dillion, Caeli Johnson, Mary Jones, Kylee Burke, Clary Wright, Hailey Myers, Kayley Baumhover and Ashlyn Washburn.
