Heartland Opera Theatre revue to feature best of Gilbert and Sullivan

JOPLIN, Mo. — A revue of the best works of Gilbert and Sullivan will be featured next week at Missouri Southern State University.

Tickets are available for "A Most Ingenious Paradox," showing at 7:30 Friday, April 25, in Corley Auditorium on the campus of MSSU. It is produced by Heartland Opera Theatre.

Known for brilliant British satire, Gilbert and Sullivan targeted politicians, lawyers and social norms of the 1800s in works that remain popular and relevant today, according to a press release from the production company.

The revue includes selections from "H.M.S. Pinafore," "The Pirates of Penzance," "Yeoman of the Guard" and "The Mikado."

The cast includes soprano Dyanne Lile, tenor Jayson Canton, contralto Lisa Marie Gerstenkorn, baritone Patrick Howle, baritone Zachary Pettit, and Anne Grace Lile, who will portray Queen Victoria in a speaking role.

It is directed by Susan Smith and accompanied by Kathy Nenadal.

Tickets: $20, $15 in advance, $10 for children and students.
