Joplin Little Theatre names season’s award winners

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin LIttle Theatre recently celebrated its 2011-2012 season by presenting their 29th annual Encore Awards. Steve LeMaster served as host, assisted by Rebecca Luebber.

Opening the evening was a performance of the Miller Medley, from last season’s bonus show, “Let’s Swing!” Performing the number were Rebecca Luebber, Tamara Barnett, Becky Seidl, Kenny Timbrel, Jim Lile and Chet Fritz.

Other musical numbers throughout the evening included “Keep on Rollin’” from “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” performed by Justin Belt, Sean Briley, Dale Clark, Hunter Dowell, Geoff Hall and Jimmy Zerkel. Karen Eckhardt presented “Prickle Pear and Lilybud” from “The Robber Bridegroom,” and Zerkel gave a preview performance of “Chip’s Lament” from the upcoming season’s “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

There were also photo montages of the three plays from the 2011-2012 season, “The Night I Died at the Palace Theatre,” “Death of a Salesman” and “Art.”

Directors for each show presented choice awards, including: Emma & Ally Briley, for “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” directed by Heather Briley; Cecie Fritz, “The Night I Died at the Palace Theatre,” directed by Chet Fritz; Kelly Purser, “Death of a Salesman,” directed by Jade Leggott; Bubba McGowan, “Art,” directed by Bill Perry; and Tony Flint, “The Robber Bridegroom,” directed by Ann G. Lile.

Other awards include:

  • Angel Guild Cherub Award, presented by Carrie Wilkinson, President of Angel Guild went to Joseph Reed.
  • Costume Design: Matt Myers for “Death of a Salesman.”
  • Set and Light Design: Shawn Irish for “Art.”
  • Choreographer: Angela Lowe for “The Robber Bridegroom.”
  • Vocal Director: Breana Sullivan for “Smokey Joe’s Cafe.”
  • Musical Director: Matthew Holt for “The Robber Bridegroom.”
  • Supporting Actress in a Play: Dee Timi for “The Night I Died at the Palace Theatre.”
  • Supporting Actor in a Play: Dustin Sisney for “Death of a Salesman.”
  • Supporting Actress in a Musical: Karen Eckhardt for “The Robber Bridegroom.”
  • Supporting Actor in a Musical: Kenny Timbrel for “The Robber Bridegroom.”
  • Lead Actress in a Play: Kelly Purser for “Death of a Salesman.”
  • Lead Actors in a Play: Kevin Babbitt, Jim Lile and Greg Swartz for “Art.”
  • Lead Actress in a Musical: Bethany Lansaw for “The Robber Bridegroom.”
  • Lead Actor in a Musical: Nicholas Gilmore for “The Robber Bridegroom.”
  • Best Play: “Art,” directed by Bill Perry.
  • Best Musical: “The Robber Bridegroom,” directed by Ann G. Lile.
