Bowling tournament caters to zombie fans

JOPLIN, Mo. — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Joplin will host a Zombie Bowl for Kids' Sake beginning at noon Saturday at Carl Richard's Bowl East.

"Zombies are real popular right now," said Don Greenlee, program director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks. "So, we thought, 'Let's see what kind of costumes participants can come up with.'"

Bowl for Kids' Sake is one of the longest running fundraisers for Big Brothers Big Sisters and has been running in the Joplin area since about 1997, he said.

"The reaction has been great," Greenlee said. "We've got a lot of teams signed up and there are still openings."

Greenlee said that Papa Murphy's pizza will be provided for participants. Individual participants are required to raise $50 through sponsorships from family and friends. Individuals can also form into five-person teams with a set goal of $250.
