"Grapes of Wrath" a stage adaptation of novel

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Tickets are on sale for a production of an adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

"The Grapes of Wrath" will be presented from April 4-6 at Memorial Auditorium, located at 503 N. Pine St. Held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of John Steinbeck's novel, the play tells the story of the Joads, a family in the Great Depression era driven from its Oklahoma home. Seeking to flee drought, pressure from the bank, a changing agricultural industry and economic hardship, the Joads set out to find new fortunes in California.

The production, directed by Linden Little and produced by Pittsburg Community Theatre, includes collaborations with several other groups, including students at Ft. Scott Community College who built a jalopy frame to represent the family's Hudson Super Six.

It also includes musicians playing during stage transitions, projection screens and a rain system for the play's climactic ending.

Tickets: $12, $10 for seniors and students, $8 for balcony.
