Merle Haggard to perform in Miami

MIAMI, Okla. — Country legend Merle Haggard would prefer you to not refer to him as a legend.

"I'd be a bit more comfortable with something like 'professor,'" he said in a biography on his website.

Knows as an outstanding lyricist and poet, Haggard has performed since the 1960s, embracing brutal honesty and rough edges in his music. Those qualities were present in his first No. 1 song on Billboard's country charts, "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive."

He was part of the outlaw country movement and has written almost 40 No. 1 hits on several Billboard charts, and won Grammys and other awards for country music. Other hits include "The Legend of Bonnie and Clyde," "Okie from Muskogee," "Carolyn" and "Mama Tried."

Tickets: $60 and $50. Details and tickets: 918-542-7140, or
