— Two men were charged Tuesday with felony possession of methamphetamine in connection with a traffic stop by a Joplin police officer.
The Jasper County prosecutor’s office charged Bobby D. Bowles, 32, of Duenweg, and David R. Cook, 38, of Webb City, with felony possession of a controlled substance during a traffic stop at 2:26 a.m. Sunday at 10th and Main streets in Joplin.
Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said a vehicle that Bowles reportedly was driving was stopped for having an unreadable temporary license tag. Niess said the officer became suspicious when Bowles allegedly acted nervous.
A drug-sniffing dog that was taken to the scene alerted on the vehicle, according to Niess, and a search of the interior allegedly turned up a bag of meth and a handgun in the center console. Bowles and his passenger, Cook, were arrested, Niess said.
