Charges were being sought against David Ray Cook in connection with the incident at 122 N. Ball St., according to Webb City police. Officers were called to the address after Cook allegedly made threats towards his wife with a gun and she escaped to a neighbors’ house and called for help at 6:56 p.m. Believing that Cook had barricaded himself inside their residence, officers surrounded the house and a special response team from the Joplin Police Department was called in to negotiate with him. It was not until 10:30 p.m. that officers determined that Cook actually fled the residence prior to their arrival. Two women other than Cook’s wife who were in the home at the time of the disturbance were detained at the scene, police said.
