A Wyandotte, Okla., girl who was dragged by a school bus said Friday she did not think she was going to survive the ordeal.
But, she and her mother say they feel she is lucky.
“...I seriously thought I was going to die. My life just went right by my eyes,” said Sydney Pierce, 15. She was injured Wednesday afternoon when a Wyandotte school bus dragged her about 300 feet down muddy East 140th Road in Ottawa County and ran over her right leg.
Her mother, Rhonda Pierce, said they do not blame the bus driver for the girl’s injuries. She said the bus driver was using his cell phone to call a supervisor to find out if Wednesday’s rains had flooded a low-water bridge on the route and also was distracted by a fight that broke out on the bus between some other students.
“I feel her guardian angel was with her,” said the mother. She said the girl suffered soft tissue injuries — bruises and abrasions — to most of her body and especially her leg but no severe head injury or broken bones. The family is consulting an orthopedic doctor today to double-check the leg injury.
“Everything’s fixable,” the mother said.
