CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage police are alerting residents who have used the services of Crosslines Ministries at Carthage that their identities may be at risk after a burglary of the organization’s building.

Detective Sgt. Randee Kaiser said Friday that files containing the personal information of Crosslines clients were taken in a burglary that was reported at 7:57 a.m. Friday.

“There were other items stolen, but the main thing we are concerned about are the identities of 2,000 families in Carthage and the area,” Kaiser said.

Residents who had information on file at the organization need to report that their information was stolen to the fraud departments at the three major credit bureaus, Kaiser said.

“They need to pay special attention to their accounts, their credit, here in the next couple of months,” Kaiser said. He said credit bureaus must dispense a free copy of a person’s credit report to them if they are exposed to fraud or identity theft.

People also should review their credit reports in a few months to look for any fraudulent activity, Kaiser said.

He said there were other items taken in the burglary, “but we’re not releasing that because we have some things to follow up on” before investigators can discuss any other details.

Equifax: (800) 525-6285 or www.equifax.com

Experian: (888) 397-3742 or www.experian.com

Trans Union (800) 680-7289 or www.tuc.com
