The Jasper County Drug Task Force members seized a pound of methamphetamine Monday from a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store in Carthage and arrested one of two occupants of the truck.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release today that task force investigators learned of a large delivery of the drug to be made in the parking lot and staked out the location. Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers eventually stopped a gray Ford truck that pulled into the lot, parked in two different locations without its occupants ever exiting the vehicle and then drove off.
When the vehicle was stopped at Airport Drive and County Road 120, both occupants tried to flee. A 25-year-old suspect from Springfield was captured, but the other occupant got away. The Sheriff’s Department said investigators know the identity of the second occupant and charges are being sought against both.
The pound of meth allegedly was found inside a container in the truck, the Sheriff’s Department said.
