BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — A Baxter Springs man has been charged in Cherokee County District Court with causing serious injuries to a 3-month-old child in February.
William L. Barber Jr., 26, is charged with felony aggravated battery, alleging that he intentionally caused serious injuries to the infant on Feb. 7. He also is charged with felony child abuse, alleging that he intentionally shook the child, causing serious injuries. The injuries were not specified in the criminal complaint.
Veronica Dersch, an assistant state attorney general, and Cherokee County Attorney John Bullard jointly filed the charges Monday. The complaint was not made public until Tuesday.
Barber’s bond has been set at $50,000. He remained in the Cherokee County Jail late Tuesday afternoon.
