GIRARD, Kan. — The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the cause of fires Monday morning that destroyed several bales of hay on two properties.
The Baker Fire Department was called at 1:35 a.m. to a property a half-mile south of 570th Avenue on 200th Street, where about 40 bales, worth an estimated $3,500, were destroyed by fire. The owner of the bales was listed as C.L. Farabi.
While searching the area, a Crawford County deputy discovered a second hay fire in progress a mile to the north. Kenneth Biancarelli lost 30 bales valued at $750 in that fire, the Sheriff’s Department said.
