LAMAR, Mo. — Barton County voters on April 8 will decide a number of school board and municipal races, including a seven-person race for three seats on the Lamar R-1 Board of Education.
Voters in Sheldon and Bronaugh also will elect representatives to their school boards.
In Lamar, three incumbents are seeking the three open three-year seats on the school board. Incumbents are George Haag, current board president, Michelle Crockett and Deana Cook. Also seeking seats on the board are Kurt Swartz, Arty Torbeck, Mike Hull and Kevin Smith.
Sheldon voters will elect three from a field of six candidates for spots on the R-8 Board of Education. The district is based in Vernon County. The aspirants are Sam Castlebury, Joshua Lamb, Angela G. Stone, Bill Nance, Gene Leinnger and Julie Casey. Castlebury and Leinnger are incumbents.
At Bronaugh, candidates for three seats on the R-7 Board of Education are Warren Langford, John Houk Jr., Andy Brannan and Tonya Cliffman. The incumbents are Langford, Houk and Brannan. The district is based in Vernon County.
Golden City voters will decide two contested races for seats on the Board of Aldermen.
Vying in the 1st Ward are Dixie (Shaw) Taylor, Bill Friesenborg and Tom Jones. Seeking the 3rd Ward post are Henry F. Lopez, the incumbent, and Kathryn Boehne.
Liberal residents will decide the winner of a seat on the Board of Aldermen from a field of three: Tom Shaw, John Nicolas and Michael Vankirk.
Mindenmines has two open seats on its Board of Alderman. The candidates are Doyle Dingman, Jerry Mitzner, John Canet, Greg Pike and William L. Wheeler.
The Barton County Hospital Board has a five-year term open. Seeking the seat are Tom Shaw and Clint Baker.
In Public Water Supply District No. 1, voters will choose between Joe Bartlett and Frank Leivan for the Subdistrict 4 board seat.
Leroy Township residents will decide whether to renew the 35-cent levy through 2011. The money is used to finance road maintenance in the township.
Union Township residents are being asked to continue the special road district levy of 45 cents per $100 of assessed valuation through 2010.

Lamar — Board of Aldermen: two-year term, Eric Jeffries; one-year term, Judd Chestnut.
Milford — Board: two-year terms, Patrick Bolin, Joyce DeMent and Donna Holt; one-year terms, Jon DeMent and James Jones.
Golden City — Mayor: Jon Brewer.
Liberal — Mayor: Bobbie J. Garrett; Board of Aldermen: 1st Ward, Tom McKay; 2nd Ward, Jimmy Smith.
Lamar — Board of Aldermen: 1st Ward, John Gilkey; 3rd Ward, Denzel Gordon; 4th Ward, Harold Vandemark.
Mindenmines — Board of Alderman: Mike Gebelin.
Lamar Heights — Board of Aldermen: 1st Ward, Jim Soma; 2nd Ward, Erin Miller.
Golden City — Mayor: Joe Brewer; Board of Aldermen: 2nd Ward, Rhonda Singer.
