WEBB CITY, Mo. — Webb City firefighters responded to a fire at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday inside the main plant at Cardinal Scale Manufacturing, 203 E. Daugherty St.
Battalion Chief Jackie Clark said some containers of powder coating that workers placed in a large oven inside the plant unexpectedly caught fire, creating heavy smoke and heat that set off the plant’s sprinkler system.
Workers got out of the building safely, and no injuries were reported, Clark said. He said the fire was confined to the large oven, but the electricity had to be shut off along with the sprinkler system in that part of the building.
Carterville and Oronogo firefighters assisted Webb City crews on the call, and helped ventilate the building after the fire.
