A former postmaster in Everton pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Springfield to misappropriating thousands of dollars in postal funds.
Wayne A. Misner, 39, entered the plea before U.S. District Judge Richard Dorr on a charge stemming from a federal indictment on Jan. 23. Misner admitted misappropriating more than $10,000 in postal funds between March 2006 and Sept. 21, 2006.
The U.S. attorney’s office for the Western District of Missouri said the government contends that Misner misappropriated $52,678. Misner was postmaster of the rural post office at Everton at the time of the offense.
He reportedly collected money from the sale of money orders, stamps and other mailing products, and did not remit the money to the Postal Service.
By pleading guilty, the defendant is subject to a sentence of up to 10 years in a federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000. A pre-sentence investigation is to be completed.
