WEIR, Kan. — The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has taken action to bar Martha Thompson from working in a bank or any other financial institution.
Thompson, known locally as Marlane Thompson, is a former vice president of Citizens Bank of Weir. She was sentenced in July to three years probation after being found guilty of embezzling $239,098 to pay off gambling debts.
Bank President Joe Fowler said at the time of her sentencing that Thompson made the checks out to Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla., after lending herself the bank’s money.
The FDIC order prohibits Thompson from “participating in any manner in the conduct of the affairs of any financial institution.”
The order notes that her actions demonstrate Thompson’s unfitness to serve in any bank position.
A condition of her probation was that Thompson not be employed in any capacity in which she has discretionary authority over financial matters.
