Four injured in accidents on roads in area

Both drivers were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 71, five miles south of Lamar in Barton County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Shirley L. Banta, 68, of Lockwood, was flown by medical helicopter to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, and Nita A. Fitchpatrick, 70, of Jasper, was flown to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, the state patrol said.

Banta was driving southbound in the northbound lanes, and her vehicle struck Fitchpatrick’s northbound car nearly head-on, the patrol said.

n Two Noel residents were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 5:40 p.m. Monday on Highway 90, a half-mile west of Noel in McDonald County, the state patrol said.

The driver, Carla Olmedo, 18, and her passenger, Katherine Gonzalez, 1, were taken to Grove General Hospital in Grove, Okla., the patrol said.
