According to the National Weather Service station in Springfield, another storm system will develop in the Plains today and push into eastern Kansas this afternoon. Supercell thunderstorms will be possible, along with large hail and isolated tornadoes.
“Gulf moisture will be on the increase ahead of this system today with increasing instability through the day. A warm layer of air aloft will initially keep a thermal cap ... over the area during much of the day, but should begin to break down by late afternoon. Severe storms will likely develop over eastern Kansas and western Missouri during the late afternoon and early evening once the thermal cap breaks.”
