A judge ordered an Alba man bound over for trial on a charge of felony assault on a law-enforcement officer after a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court.
Associate Judge Richard Copeland found probable cause for Frank E. Halvorsen, 27, to stand trial on the charge after hearing testimony from the alleged victim, George Datum, a detention officer at the Jasper County Jail.
Datum testified that Halvorsen struck him more than once in the face during an incident March 15 at the jail. Halvorsen was an inmate in a holding cell, where Datum said he was attempting to quell some argument and yelling. He told the court that he suffered a chipped tooth in the attack.
The judge set May 30 as the date for Halvorsen’s first appearance on the charge in a trial division of the court.
