GALENA, Kan. — The Galena City Council this week gave the owner of two trailer parks guidance about bringing the parks into compliance with city regulations.
Richard Thompson, owner of the Lakeview and Spring Grove trailer parks, appeared Tuesday before the council and referred to a letter he had received from City Attorney Kevin Cure.
Cure told Thompson that the city didn’t want to be adversarial but wants to cooperate to help him bring the trailer parks into compliance so the required permits can be issued.
Cure told Thompson that storm shelters are required at the trailer parks, and Thompson said those are being constructed now.
Cure said fire hydrants are required at the trailer parks, but the council hasn’t established standards for those. He said the Fire Department would be asked to establish standards.
Cure also said Thompson had moved two mobile homes from one trailer park to the other without getting the required moving permits. He said Thompson would be required to get the permits from City Hall before moving any other mobile homes.
In other business Tuesday, the council:
Voted to remove the jungle gym at the city park because it is hazardous.
Approved hiring an engineering firm to ensure compliance with state regulations at the construction and demolition landfill. The cost of the work is $8,000.
Paid bills and payroll totaling $168,008.
