GALENA, Kan. — Today is the last day for the annual Galena Days celebration. The four days of festivities began Wednesday and activities wrap up today with a parade, fireworks show, carnival and more.
Galena Days is an annual event to mark the anniversary of the town’s founding 132 years ago.
The celebration is also a fund-raiser for the Galena Volunteer Fire Department, which throws the event every year. This year, the fire department was able to purchase two new trucks with money raised from previous Galena Days events, according to Fire Chief Bill Hall.
In past years, the event has attracted up to 3,000 people who flock to Galena for, as Hall calls it, this “big little celebration.”
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. today with the Classic Car Show. Music and dance entertainment during the evening includes the Route 66 Cloggers, Diversity Band, Live Wire Band and the Galena High School Drumline.
The carnival also has rides and food stands that go on throughout the evening.
Drawings for prizes will begin after the coronation of Miss Galena. Prizes include barbecue grills, a swing set, patio furniture and a 2009 Hyundai Accent or $10,000 cash.
All concerts and programs are free and open to the public.
Tickets to enter the drawings cost $1.
Galena Days is held on City Hall property.
