A Carthage police officer was found dead in a motel room in Butler Thursday, according to police reports.
Chad Webb, 32, had been a member of the Carthage Police Department since 2000, according to Chief Greg Dagnan.
“This is hitting us very hard here, because Chad was extremely well liked,” he said today. “It’s a shock to all of us.”
Webb’s death is being investigated as an “apparent suicide” according to Butler Police Chief Jim Garnett.
The owner of the Super 8 motel at 1114 W. Fort Scott St. notified Butler police after Webb missed his checkout time Thursday, Garnett said. Officers forced entry into the room, where they located Webb’s body on the floor. Garnett said there were no signs of a struggle in the room.
Dagnan said Webb was not on duty or working on a case in Butler and there were no indications of foul play.
