Wilbur Gatlin, Joplin streets superintendent, said that water has subsided on most city streets and “about 99 percent” of roads are now clear.
“Right now, it’s about 150 percent better,” Gatlin said.
He said water is still receding on Illinois Street south of Seventh Street, where two empty cars remain in the street.
“That’s about the only place I know that there’s still vehicles sitting,” he said.
Permanent damage to streets should be minimal, Gatlin said.
