The National Weather Service in Tulsa, Okla., at 8:21 a.m. today reported that major flooding continues along the Neosho River at Commerce and Miami, with the crest of 28.5 feet expected at Commerce. The crest is expected late today.
At 7 a.m., Tuesday, the river was at 27.9 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. Traffic, which is being rerouted because of flooded roads and highways, has backed up with long lines in many locations.
The Neosho River will fall below flood stage Saturday, according to weather officials.
The National Weather Service also said a flood warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. today for much of Southeast Kansas, including Labette County.
